GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: Parks and Recreation is seeking energetic and creative individuals who are passionate to work with school-aged children. This position is responsible for effectively organizing and instructing recreational and educational activities for youth day camps and other non-athletic programs as well as oversight of seasonal recreation assistants.
SEASONAL: 10-35 Hours Per Week
DUTIES:
- Manages the group to ensure a safe and fun camp for all participants during all activities (classroom, gym, outside, bus/transportation, off site field trips);
- Uses group management skills to engage all children in daily activities;
- Sets up, takes down, and works with others to sanitize/clean camp room and equipment daily;
- Conducts behavior management procedures and handles camper emergencies;
- Assists with camp opening and closing;
- Assists with camper drop-off and pick-up;
- Attend trainings and conduct staff meetings;
- Perform other related duties as required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent; must be at least 18 years of age. Prefer a proven track record with working with youth.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Position requires standing/walking during the assigned shift. This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat, and noise.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days of hire
